Common questions
Where do I find my PIN? On your assessment notice and your tax bill: 14 digits, written like 14-29-101-020-0000. You can also give your street address.
How are comps chosen? Same Assessor neighborhood and class as your home, building size within 25% and year built within 20 years by default, ranked by similarity. Only homes assessed lower per square foot of building are listed.
Why is the deadline not shown for my township? The Board of Review publishes dates township by township through the year. The Assessor's own window opens about when reassessment notices are mailed. Use the official links in the answer.
Who can file an appeal? Under the Board of Review's rules, individual owners may file appeals themselves, while properties owned by a corporation, LLC or other entity must be represented by an attorney at the Board of Review. Check the current rules on the Assessor's and Board of Review's sites. This service does not give legal advice.
My square footage is wrong. A wrong characteristic is itself a ground for appeal. Point it out in your appeal with evidence such as a survey or appraisal.
